Romania is located in southeastern Europe. It is most well-known for the forested region of Translyvania which has been long associated with the legend of Count Dracula. Romania is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains and contains many medieval towns such as Sighisoara. Romania contains many notable churches and castles which give the country an old and distinct feel.
The World Folkfest is pleased to welcome Somesul-Napoca as the performing group from Romania. Somesul-Napoca was founded in 1973 by Dr. Zamfir Dejeu. Many of the groups dances and performances come from the native folklore of various regions of Romania. Somesul-Napoca has had the opportunity to take part in many different performances around the world in countries such as Italy, England, France, Canada, Germany, Czech Republic and the United States. The purpose of the group is to preserve and expand the folk culture of Romania. They hope to express the optimism and pride of the Romanian people and send a message of friendship as you enjoy their performance.
