Groupe d’Arts et Traditions Populaires La Savoie was founded in 1936 in Chambery at the foot of the French Alps. The group is composed of over sixty dancers and musicians and has competed in 13 festivals in the last 5 years representing France. La Savoie also organized and promotes their own festival: Festival Mondial des cultures du monde de Chambery. Through it’s dances La Savoie commemorates life in the Savayard valleys during the 19th century. The performances convey the joy of living in the demanding environment of the mountains of the Savoy region. Historically they were performed during the long and cold evenings to express resistance and vitality of the young dancers. All of the music performed is based on Polkas, Valse, and Scottish styles with the lead being performed by the accordion.
